Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- With its 7-4 win over William Jessup on Friday afternoon Biola Baseball successfully won back-to-back games for the first time since Jan. 29-30.
Â
This positive outcome came about because Biola's offense did just enough to escape with a win after squandering an early three-run lead.
Aaron Chavez and
Sam Thorne led the way offensively as Thorne was a constant presence on base at the top of the order and Chavez was effective further down the lineup.
Â
Head Coach
Jay Sullenger's team recorded its second-straight double-digit hit performance as they were able to record 11 hits against WJU's trio of pitchers in the series-opener.
Â
Four of those 11 hits went for extra-bases as, which made all the difference in the ballgame as all six of the Warriors' hits were singles.
Â
Eight of the 11 runs in the ballgame came between the fifth and seventh innings. This scoring outburst was started when Jessup hung three on
Eric Diomartich in the top of the fifth after he had made it through the first four innings of his outing allowing only one hit to the visiting team.
Â
Those three runs brought the game to 3-3 and made the game into much more of a chess match from that point forward.
Â
A RBI single by
Jerron Largusa and a big-time triple off the bat of Chavez helped the Eagles get back to a two-run advantage the very next inning. The Chavez triple would ultimately be the game's deciding run and gave Gab Ihrig his first victory of the season since he was on the bump to finish the sixth.
Â
The Eagles would tack on two more runs in the seventh, which was an inning that got started with back-to-back doubles by Thorne and
JD Meyer and had the Eagles thinking of much more than two insurance runs.
Â
But, a one-run advantage is all you need to win the game and the Eagles had that three-fold on Friday afternoon.
Â
Buddy Brouwer and
Daniel Jang each pitched one inning of relief and put up zeroes to help Biola close out the win at that 7-4 margin.
Â
The win pushes Biola to 7-14 (2-5 GSAC) and it drops the Warriors to 1-16 (1-9 GSAC). The two teams conclude this weekend series with two games tomorrow beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Eagles Diamond.
