LA MIRADA, Calif. --- A good contingent of fans made their way out to the Biola Tennis Center on Saturday morning to take in the first Golden State Athletic Conference match of the season for Biola Women's Tennis.
Â
San Diego Christian came to play in this one despite only having five players to send out to the courts. The Hawks took a 5-4 victory by winning both of the played doubles matches and three of the five played singles matches.
Â
Susan Carmichael and
Kelsey Post earned victories in their singles matches, both coming in straight sets. Post beat Anastasia Hicker in the No. 5 spot in a dominating 6-4; 6-1 performance.
Â
"Kelsey was in charge of her match from the start," said Head Coach
Dee Henry.
Â
After winning set one 6-1 Carmichael fell behind to Miriam Boeta in No. 4 singles, but she battled back to claim a 6-4 win in the second set to take the match.
Â
"When Susan tied her opponent, her opponent knew it was over," said Henry.
Â
Madeline Heer got her first start at No. 1 singles since 2014. She played well and pushed her opponent Aleksandra Emelianova to the brink in a 4-6; 2-6 loss.
Â
Both of the doubles matches were intense battles, but the Hawks managed to win the battles to take 8-4 and 8-3 wins in the two matches that could be played.
