Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The tough times continued for Biola Baseball on Saturday as the team lost its 11
th and 12
th consecutive games to No. 16 Westmont. The Eagles could not get anything going offensively in either game as they lost 14-2 in game one and 3-0 in the afternoon game.
Â
The first game was a runaway win from the very start as Westmont tagged
Micah Beyer for six runs in the top of the first inning to blow the game wide open. Every player in the Warriors' starting lineup reached base at least once in the first game as Westmont scored 14 runs on 15 hits and six walks.
Â
The damage was all done through the first five innings before
Sean Rothfuss,
Brandon Valente and
Sean McCarrell ended the game with four shutout innings allowing just two more hits.
Â
Westmont got a great start from David Gaydos who went six innings and allowed just four hits and the two runs to the Eagles. Both runs were earned as
Jeremy Barth and
Aaron Chavez each hit sacrifice flies in a productive second inning for BU.
Â
The Eagles got two hits in that two-run second inning, but could only muster three other hits through the rest of the eight innings of game one. Also, some defensive gaffes cost the Eagles on the other side as the team had four errors.
Â
The solid pitching out of the bullpen in game one turned into a solid start for
Jimmy Gallarda in game two as it seemed like the Biola staff finally figured out the hard-hitting Westmont lineup.
Â
Gallarda went six of the seven innings and allowed just five hits to the Warriors. Only trouble was that his lineup only backed him up with two hits of their own against Westmont's Zach DeMarcus, Michael Rishwain and Sam Sheehan.
Â
A walk, stolen base and ground out setup a runner on third with one out in the first for Jarrett Costa, Westmont cleanup hitter. He managed to cleanup when he singled to left field and Michael Frigon crossed the plate with what would turn out to be the game-winning run.
Â
After that Gallarda allowed just one hit over the next four innings as he really settled into a duel with DeMarcus. Unfortunately, the Warriors found two more runs in the sixth when Derek Rodigo homered to left field for some insurance.
Â
After that Biola was shutdown by the Warriors' bullpen and suffered the 3-0 loss that dropped the team to 5-14 (1-5 GSAC). Westmont improves to 14-2 (5-1 GSAC).
Â
The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. as they host Bethesda for the fourth time this season.Â
