Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- For the second time in as many outings Biola Baseball is left wishing the game was just a little bit shorter. After a remarkable pitcher's duel through the first seven innings No. 16 Westmont broke out for six runs in the eighth to earn a 6-3 win on Friday afternoon.
Â
Eric Diomartich and Westmont's starter, Daniel Butler, pitch for pitch over the course of seven great innings of work. The senior lefty allowed just one hit to the Warriors through his first 21 outs and walked only two as he face just three more than the minimum.
Â
Dio was missing bats all afternoon as his swing-and-miss stuff was dialed up to the max and he hit 88 on the radar gun consistently. Unfortunately, he gets saddled with a tough-luck loss as his two walks to begin the top of the eighth would come around to score as Westmont figured things out late in the game.
Â
Dio had retired 12 straight batters heading into the eight, but back-to-back walks had him at 104 pitches with two on and none out Head Coach Jay Sulenger had no choice but to make a change and bring in the usually dominant
Daniel Jang.
The sophomore got a ground ball to the left side, which allowed
Alec de Watteville to retire the lead runner for the first out. However, de Watteville tried to also nab the runner at first base but threw the ball high to allow runners to advance to second and third.
Â
Then Jang allowed an RBI single to make it 1-0 with still one out and runners on the corners. The next batter bunted, and Jang made the great play to catch the Warriors runner between second and third for the second out of the inning.
Â
Unfortunately, the Warriors managed five two-out hits to bring home five more runs and blow the game open. This explosion ruined what had been turning out to be one of the best atmospheres at Eagles Diamond in quite some time.
Â
A two-out, bases loaded double from
JD Meyer allowed the Eagles to score three in the bottom half of the inning, but a quick three outs from Westmont's closer in the ninth secured the Warriors' 10
th-consecutive win over Biola.
Â
The Eagles fall to 5-12 (1-3 GSAC) with this loss, while Westmont continues to roll at 12-2 (3-1 GSAC). The final two games of this series will be played on Saturday at Eagles Diamond beginning at 11:00 a.m.
