LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Saturday evening's matchup between No. 5 Hope International and No. 8 Biola is selected as the NAIANetwork.com Men's Basketball Game of the Week.
Â
The Eagles host the Royals at Chase Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. in both team's final regular season game. The game will decide which team takes home the 2015-16 Golden State Athletic Conference regular season championship as both teams will come in with identical conference records or a record separated by just one game.
Â
Biola's last GSAC regular season championship was back in the 2001-02 season. Hope International won the GSAC regular season and tournament championships just last year.
Â
The Eagles come into the night with a full week of rest after playing their last game on Feb. 20 against Menlo. Biola won that game by 10 points to improve to 13-2 in conference play this season and set itself up in a position to win the championship.
Â
The Royals have another game on their slate this week. They face No. 15 Arizona Christian in Fullerton on Friday night to determine if they will enter this Saturday matchup with a 13-2 or 12-3 conference mark. Saturday's matchup will be HIU's fourth in a 10-day stretch.
Â
Hope International won the first meeting between these two teams in Fullerton earlier this year. Biola had troubles making shots from the floor in a 54-66 loss in Darling Pavilion. HIU has won each of the previous four meetings dating back to 2013-14.
Â
Both teams are incredibly strong defensively this season as they are No. 1 and No. 2 in all of the NAIA in scoring defense. Biola is the best in the nation at keeping its opponents off the board by allowing just 59.8 points-per-game. HIU is second in the nation with its average points against of 62.0.
Â
The teams truly have been the class of a very competitive GSAC this season as the both rank No. 1 or No. 2 in the conference in 10 of the 21 measured statistical categories.
