Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. --- With Thursday night's 111-65 victory over Northwest Indian College No. 1 Biola Men's Basketball secured its second 100+ point performance of the 2016-17 season. It's the first time the Eagles have scored more than 100 points in multiple games since the 2002-03 season.
Â
The Eagles shot 60 percent from the floor and had six players score in double-digits as it worked a 56-point victory.
Blake Shannon, Jr. and
Steve Herve were the game's leading scorers with 18 points each. That is one point shy of Shannon's career-high and ties Herve's single-game best.
Â
Biola's ball movement was strong from start-to-finish on this night as the team racked up a season-high 24 assists. Shannon led the effort with five dimes. The Eagles still turned the ball over 17 times, but a handful of those were offensive fouls.
Â
It was a strange, quiet feel as the Eagles hosted this Washington-based program in a game played at Whittier Christian High School because Chase Gym is all setup for tomorrow's winter commencement.
Â
Even though the gym was not as familiar, the Eagles could still find the paint. Biola poured in buckets inside to pile on 64 points in the paint. The offense was also very strong in transition, scoring 18 fastbreak points while allowing zero.
Â
Joining Shannon and Herve in double-digits was
Alex Talma (16),
Jeff Gonzalez (15),
Connor Getting (12) and
Luis Medearis (11).
Â
It was a new career-best for Getting. The lanky senior fan favorite improved on his previous career-high by three points on 6-of-13 shooting. Medearis posted his second double-double of the season by finishing with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Â
Medearis' 12 boards was just eight fewer than NWIC had as a team (20). Biola won the rebounding battle by 42. The Eagles' 62 rebounds is the most they've had in a game in at over 15 years.
Â
Biola scored the first 15 points of the contest and never trailed. Northwest Indian did heat up from the field late in the first half and remained hot for the first 10 minutes or so of the second half to score their 65 points. It was the highest point total the visiting Eagles managed on their four-day, four-game swing through the Golden State Athletic Conference.
Â
NWIC was led by 21 from Jaloni Pepper and a very efficient 19 from Angel King, who was 3-for-3 from deep.
Â
Biola improved to 12-1 with the win and Northwest Indian fell to 0-21 following the loss. The Eagles move out onto the road for their next outing as they face Life Pacific (5-4) in San Dimas at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
