Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. Â --- The Eagles three game winning streak came to an end on Saturday with a 55-75 loss to NCAA Division II opponent Point Loma.
Five different Sea Lions finished the game scoring in double digits, and Point Loma shot a red hot 51 percent from the field and 8-of-15 from three. The trio of Sydney Tonack, Alex Brunk and Madison West led the way for the home team, scoring 17, 16 and 16 points, respectively.
"Point Loma is a good team and playing them has helped us learn a lot about what it will take to compete with the top teams when we join the PacWest," said Head Coach
Alan Nakamura. "We welcome challenges like this and will be better for the experience."Â
In spite of the final deficit, Biola still earned the respect of their opponents in the second half by matching every bucket with the Sea Lions.
Joclyn Kirton scored all 10 of her points in the second half on 5-of-8 shooting and joined
DeMoria White as the two Eagles who reached double figures.
Biola outscored Point Loma 39-to-38 in the second half in large part to the 10 points contributed by the substitute duo of
Tatum Brimley and
Mikayla Greens. Each player sunk a three pointer and they went a combined 3-of-3 from the field in quarters three and four.
It was just the goal the Eagles were shooting at in the first two quarters that they had problems with: missing 10 shots from beyond the arc and surrendering nine turnovers. In contrast, Point Loma shot 13-of-25 from the field in the first half, riding 52 percent shooting to a 21 point lead going into the break.
This is the second of four games that Biola will play against NCAA Division II opponents. Their next two matchups against D II opponents are also against future PacWest foes Concordia and Azusa Pacific, with the first coming against the Eagles from Irvine on Tuesday Nov. 29.
Before then, Biola has one more game scheduled before Thanksgiving Break: a Wednesday afternoon tilt at home against Embry Riddle at 2:00 p.m.
