Biola Improves To 7-0 With Big Win

Biola beats Pomona-Pitzer by 24 points to spoil their season-opener.

Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. --- Biola Men's Basketball faced its third NCAA opponent in as many outings on Wednesday night and came away with a 74-50 victory at Pomona-Pitzer.

The win keeps Biola's overall record unblemished as the team improved to 7-0 for the 2016 season. The win was number 928 overall and 892 at Biola for Head Coach Dr. Dave Holmquist.

Knowing they were going up a team that had most of its top talent at the two guard spots the Eagles made their approach be to attack the Sagehens post players to score a bunch of points in the paint and get Pomona-Pitzer into foul trouble.

The Eagles held a 40-14 advantage in points in the paint and its three forwards accounted for almost half of Biola's 74 points. It was by no means a perfect game for BU's big men though as one fouled out and another had four personal fouls. Definitely an area both men will improve on next time out.

Dakari Archer scored the first points of the game just over two minutes in as he made a mid-range jumper to put the Eagles ahead 2-0 and secure a lead that Biola would never relinquish over the 40 minutes of play.

Continuing his streak of strong play was Caelan Tiongson. The first-year grad student finished the game with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting. He made both free throws that he had a chance to shoot and pulled down eight boards while dishing out four assists. He did all of that in just 24 minutes as he's still working his way back to full health.

The Eagles had another full team effort though as Trevor Treinen (14), Archer (12) and Ryan Swain also reached double-digit scoring. Swain was the man throughout the first half for BU as he scored a team-high eight points on 2-of-3 shooting (3-for-3 from the line) to help the Eagles to a 37-23 halftime lead.

Biola shot 50 percent from the floor in this game (30-for-60) and held its opponent's to just 36 percent (16-for-44). The Eagles also led the rebounding battle by 10 (34-24) to help it to its ultimate 24-point advantage.

Look out for Levi Auble. The sophomore had his best outing of the season with eight points on 50 percent shooting in just 19 minutes on the floor.

Biola improves to 7-0 on the season and drops the Sagehens to 0-1 as they lost their season-opener. The Eagles have the weekend off and get back at it at home next Wednesday (the day before Thanksgiving) to face Embry-Riddle at 4:00 p.m.
