Box Score FULLERTON, Calif. --- Darling Pavilion has not been a happy host to Biola Men's Basketball in 2015-16. Following tonight's 54-66 loss at the hands of No. 7 Hope International the 19-3 Eagles are now 1-2 at HIU's home court.
Â
The Eagles struggled to find their identity all night long and were especially cold from beyond the arc as they worked to a 12-point loss at the hands of the Royals. Biola made just one three-point shot in 13 attempts as it struggled to work around a difficult HIU defense.
Â
Hope International's Dominique Lanier was the player of the game as he went 4-of-6 from distance and 5-of-9 overall as he worked to a team-high 14 points.
Â
Both sides struggled to score early on as the game was tied at four nearly seven minutes into the game. Points came in a hurry over the next three minutes as the two teams combined for 24 points as HIU worked to an 18-14 lead with one of Lanier's deep threes.
Â
That minor lead held until halftime when HIU went into the dressing room with a 30-25 lead in hand. The Eagles were 0-of-4 from deep and just 3-of-10 on free throws in a first half that was not at all representative of the top-10 Eagles team.
Â
The gameplay was similar at the start of the second half as HIU maintained its slim lead. With 10 minutes left in the game the Royals began to pull away as the Eagles went about four minutes without a made field goal.
Â
The Royals extended their lead to 12 points by the 5:56 mark and would get it as large as 15 points as they soared down the stretch. Hope International shot 63 percent from three-point range (5-of-8) and 73 percent from the free-throw line in the second half as it cruised to its 17
th win of the season.
Â
Terrell Funches was the Eagles' leading scorer in the losing effort. He went 10-of-20 from the field for 20 points and posted his second double-double of the year with 10 rebounds.
Â
Dakari Archer struggled for much of the night, but some late field goals in the second half helped him end with 14 points. He had a difficult time making his shots inside as he went just 5-of-18 from the field.
Â
So it's time to move on as Biola (19-3, 6-2 GSAC) fixes its eyes towards Tuesday night's home game against San Diego Christian. Â Hope International takes stake of first place in the conference at 17-3 (6-1 GSAC) and faces Menlo on Thursday.
