Box Score ROCKLIN, Calif. --- Biola began its final series of the 2015 season on a sour note with a 2-4 road loss at William Jessup in
Garrett Picha's final start as an Eagle.
Â
Picha allowed four early runs to the Warriors, but he was steady from the fourth through the eighth inning. Unfortunately for him, he was saddled with a loss as his opponent threw a complete game and held the Eagles to their two late-inning scores.
Â
Biola had trouble scoring runs off Sam Anderson despite getting 11 runners on base throughout the afternoon. They twice had the bases loaded with fewer than two outs but failed to push runners home.
Â
The Eagles benefitted from two errors and a walk in the top of the third inning, but a pop out in foul territory and a fly out ended the inning with Anderson escaping unscathed.
Â
Biola did it on its own in the top of the sixth, getting two singles and a walk from the top of its order before a very hard hit line drive turned into an inning-ending double play.
Â
The inability to score in those innings proved to be the downfall that kept Biola from being able to overcome the 4-0 deficit completely despite runs in the seventh and ninth innings.
Â
Rob Groeschell hit a one-out double and came around to score in the seventh inning on a
Paul Slater single for Biola's first run. Groeschell drove in the second run with a fly out to center field.
Â
Anderson got his first victory of the season (1-6) and Picha fell to 4-7 overall. Biola drops to 20-31 (14-26 GSAC) and William Jessup improves to 9-35 (9-31 GSAC).
Â
The two teams are scheduled to meet for a doubleheader at noon tomorrow. Rain is in the forecast, so check athletics.biola.edu and @BiolaAthletics on Twitter for updates.Â
