Box Score 2 LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was another forgettable day at Eagles Diamond for Biola fans, but one that San Diego Christian fans are likely to never forget.
Â
The Hawks' game one starter, Gio Ochoa, threw 148 pitches and allowed zero hits in a 12-0 SDC victory. It was the first no-hitter in the history of San Diego Christian baseball and snapped a 16-game losing streak for the Hawks.
Â
Game two was another tough one to swallow for Head Coach
Jay Sullenger's team, as the Eagles rode the arm of
Micah Beyer, who had his second-straight fantastic start, to a 1-0 lead into the fifth inning of the seven inning game.
Â
With two outs in the Hawks' half of inning
Andrew Frank made a remarkable a sprawling catch in right field to seemingly end the inning. However, the field umpire ruled the ball popped out and the Hawks scored three runs on the play. San Diego Christian went on the win the game 3-2.
Â
There's not much of a story to tell about the first game, aside from the fact that the Hawks got 23 hits, 22 of which were singles, and had its offense clicking all day long. Every spot in SDC's batting order reached base at least twice in the blowout.
Â
Game two was much more competitive, but again Biola had troubles getting runners on and then getting runners in once they were able to get hits.
Â
The Eagles got an early run off of SDC's starter, Anthony Carrizosa, as
Rob Groeschell singled home
Andrew Frank who reached on a throwing error.
Â
That lead held until the previously described play got the Eagles with their backs against the wall headed into their final six outs.
Â
Tanner Swire got Biola's comeback attempt started almost immediately in the sixth inning, doubling off of Carrizosa with just one out. The Eagles got runners on the corners for their big bat,
Julian Jarrard, after
Jeremy Barth singled.
Â
Jarrard hit a ball that seemed to be a shallow popup to right field, but the Hawks' outfielder muffed the catch and allowed Swire to scamper home to bring Biola within one.
Â
Back-to-back popups off SDC's reliever ended the threat and left Biola with just three more outs to work with.
Â
Beyer held the Hawks scoreless in their last at bats in the sixth, but the Eagles couldn't get the bats going at all in their seventh, going down in order and leading to Biola's 13
th Golden State Athletic Conference loss and third straight.
Biola falls to 6-15 (4-13) and helps the Hawks improve to 5-17 (4-13 GSAC). The good news is that Biola gets a chance to salvage the series tomorrow morning. The three-game set concludes with an 11:00 a.m. game at Eagles Diamond on Saturday.
