EL CAJON, Calif. --- Biola got great individual play from two of its top players, but despite their best efforts falls short at San Diego Christian, 3-6.
Â
Lauren Vogel stood out for head Coach
Dee Henry's squad, earning wins in her singles and doubles match to improve to 2-1 in her Golden State Athletic Conference singles and doubles matches.
Â
"Lauren's consistency was the key to her success," said Henry.
Â
The senior won her singles match at No. 6 in straight sets, performing efficiently against the Hawks' Anastasia Hicker, winning in straight sets (6-3; 7-5).
Â
She combined with freshman
Brooke Sanford to get Biola's only point in singles play, earning an 8-2 win at No. 3.
Â
After Biola began its day trailing 3-0, the Eagles' No. 1,
Kathryn Ashford, began to change the tide to be more competitive.
Â
She earned a 6-3; 6-4 win at the top spot over Roxanna Daneshjoo, who came into play on Saturday with a 1-1 record through her first two conference matches.
Â
"Kat played smart, making adjustments in her singles game, which all paid off," said Henry.
Â
Including Ashford's singles victory, Biola went 3-3 in the final six matches to conclude, including winning two of the final three singles matches, helping it trend up heading into the next match.
Â
The loss drops the Eagles to 1-3 (1-2 GSAC) and helps SDC become 1-2 (1-2 GSAC). Biola is next in action on Tuesday afternoon, hosting No. 10 Concordia (2-2, 2-2 GSAC).
