Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Biola Men's Basketball became the first team in the NAIA to get to 15 victories on Wednesday night with an 82-64 win over La Sierra on the road.
Â
It was a terrific performance all-around as the Eagles shot well from inside, outside and the line and dominated the boards to improve to 15-1 overall and beat La Sierra for the second time this season.
Â
The good night got started with a dominant first half in which the Eagles made half of their shots from the field and were perfect from the free throw line in building a 36-22 lead.
Â
While Biola drained its shots throughout the half, the Golden Eagles struggled to find their stroke as they made just 10 shots from the floor in the first 20 minutes.
Â
The home team also had a hard time containing Biola on the boards. The Eagles gobbled up 18 defensive rebounds in the first half as it claimed a 22-13 advantage on the glass headed into the break.
Â
Ryan Swain was a key contributor on both ends in the first 20 minutes as he brought in over a quarter of the team's first-half rebounds (6) and scored six points powered by a 2-for-4 three-point performance.
Â
Dakari Archer led all scorers with 11 points in his 18 first-half minutes, while the Golden Eagles' top scorers managed just six points a piece.
Â
The 8-of-8 free throw shooting was huge in building the early lead, especially considering LSU went just 2-of-6 from the line.
Â
The second half was much closer as both teams scored over 40 points and La Sierra began to hit more shots from the floor. The Eagles maintained their rebounding advantage to aid in extending their lead in the game.
Â
Jeff Gonzalez was ridiculous on the boards in this one as he pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds to go with his nine points.
Â
Former Eagle Andre Marquez got hot in the second half to help La Sierra perform better. He dropped in 15 of La Sierra's 42 second-half points to tie for the game-high of 21 points scored.
Â
Archer led a contingent of three Eagles that reached double-digit scoring. He finished with 21 on 6-of-10 shooting as he bounced back in a big way from last game's three-point performance.
Â
Steve Herve and
Trevor Treinen both finished with 12 points in more consistent performances for the Eagles' young players.
Â
The three-pronged scoring output helped Biola overcome 22 turnovers and still walk away with the 18-point win over the now 1-9 Golden Eagles.
Â
Biola is now done with non-conference play as it gets back onto the court on Tuesday night for a Golden State Athletic Conference matchup against Westmont.
