Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The last time Biola Men's Basketball played Life Pacific it was a tightly-contested 11-point game that took a massive individual performance from
Dakari Archer to carry the Eagles to victory.
Â
Tonight's effort was a completely different story as Archer only had to play half the game as a complete team effort lifted Biola to an 82-57 victory over the visiting Warriors on Wednesday evening.
Â
"I thought we came out ready to play," said Head Coach
Dr. Dave Holmquist. "We played good defense and they did not play as well as they did the first time we played them."
Â
Biola never trailed and even held up to a 33-point lead late in the second half en route to a blowout victory in a non-conference tune-up before a major Golden State Athletic Conference test awaits this weekend.
Â
The standout performances of the night belong to
Steve Herve,
Blake Shannon, Jr. and Archer, who made a difference even in just his 20 minutes.
Â
Herve played like an extremely reliable post player on this night as he was active under the basket throughout and he ended with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 2-of-4 free throw conversion.
Â
Shannon came in and controlled the game in helping the Eagles build up to around a 30-point lead in the first half. He filled in to give Archer some rest and did not disappoint one bit. He made a few threes, drove to the basket to draw fouls and played some good defense in a solid outing.
Â
The sophomore guard, playing in just his fifth game of the season, ended with a team-high 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting and was perfect behind the arc (3-3). He added two assists, including one of the most delicious dimes ever in a transition alley-oop layup that brought the crowd to its feet late in the game.
Â
Archer ended with 12 points in his 20 minutes by going 4-of-5 from the floor and 2-of-4 from the line. He was also in the mood to dish with his two assists on the night.
Â
Holmquist was able to work 12 players onto the floor in this one, including
Connor Getting who got a season-best five points in his seven minutes. He made one basket and got himself to the line twice, where he shot 75 percent.
Â
"I thought we played with a lot of energy," said Holmquist. "We played hard and a number of guys got to play good minutes, so I think it was a good game for us going into the next league game."
Â
The Eagles improve to 11-1 with the win and Life Pacific falls to 1-10. The victory is Holmquist's 902
nd of his career and ties him with legendary coach Bobby Knight. Biola gets to host No. 4 Arizona Christian in a GSAC battle at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
