LA MIRADA, Calif. ---
Dr. Dave Holmquist took over Biola University men's basketball in 1978 with 36 wins to his name in three seasons as a collegiate head coach. Since then he's won 863 other games and sits one victory away from being just the eighth collegiate men's basketball coach to reach the 900-win plateau.
Coach Holmquist is in his 36th season at the helm of Biola men's baskteball and has led the team to 19 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Tournament berths and 33 winning seasons.
Including his three seasons as the head coach at Fresno Pacific University he's now compiled an 899-355 (.717) career coaching record. On Tuesday November 24, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. the coach looks to win his 900th career game in a preseason game against Bethesda University (0-2).
Holmquist's 2015-16 team enters the game with an 8-1 overall record coming off of its first loss of the season the last time out against NCAA Division II opponent Westminster College (Utah). The Eagles are the heavy favorites against a Flames team that has been outscored by its opponents by an average of 34 points-per-game in two regular season losses and an exhibition loss to CSU Fullerton.
The game has a scheduled tip-off for 7:30 p.m., but it will tip-off exactly 25 minutes following the conclusion of the Biola women's basketball slated for 5:30 p.m against Cal Poly Pomona.
J. Richard Chase Gymnasium on the campus of Biola University is the site of this evening's contest. General Admission ticket prices are $6 per person. The game can also be seen live (for free) at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/biola/.
