Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola cruised to its seventh straight victory to open the season behind a breakthrough performance from one of its freshman who exploded for 20 points in just about that many minutes in the Eagles' 73-57 win over Antelope Valley.
Â
Trevor Treinen was unstoppable in this one, turning just about every head inside of Chase Gymnasium as he showed just what he is capable of doing on the offensive end for Head Coach
Dr. Dave Holmquist's squad.
Â
The true freshman was lights-out from wherever he wanted to throw up a shot from as he went 8-of-9 from the floor and was making his shots from all over. He began his hot shooting night with back-to-back triples before showing what he was made of with some inside scores, midrange jumpers and then working back out to beyond the arc.
Â
He ended 4-for-4 from deep en route to garnering a game-high 20 points, which is a new career best. Quite a few of those points came off feeds from
Dakari Archer, who ended with five dimes and a subtle 17 points in a night where he was his usual self.
Â
Jeff Gonzalez had another consistent performance on both ends of the court as her corralled a game-high nine rebounds to go with a handful of points. His nine were a part of Biola's 41 rebounds as the team controlled the glass all night in outrebounding the Pioneers by 14.
Â
Biola utilized a strong start to the second half to pull out to what would eventually end at a 16-point advantage. The Eagles only led by five at the break after what was a hit-or-miss first 20 minutes.
Â
It was the high energy play of Archer, Treinen and
Terrell Funches that got the Eagles soaring out to the quick start in the second that eventually saw the lead climb as high as 21 with just seven minutes to play.
Â
Funches ended the night with seven points after going just 3-for-13 from the floor. He again had the bucket of the night as he found his way to the hoop for a slam-dunk on one of Biola's second half fast breaks.
Â
Biola moves to 7-0 and Holmquist moves to 898 career coaching victories with the big victory. The Eagles compete at the Hope Classic hosted by Hope International this Saturday, where two wins could get Holmquist wins 899 and 900.
