Strong Second In Fullerton

Biola finishes second only to NCAA Division I Loyola Marymount in Friday's Titan Invitational.

FULLERTON, Calif. --- Even in sending an abbreviated squad to the 2015 CSU Fullerton Titan Invite Head Coach Sean Henning's Biola Cross Country team still stands out among the crowd.

It was Biola's final regular season meet of the season on Friday night so Henning let some of his regulars get some rest and those he did run definitely did not disappoint. His group of six runners placed well enough to get the Eagles' women's team second overall in the field of seven. Biola finished behind only Loyola Marymount and just three points back.

The other schools to compete in the women's race were Orange Coast College, Long Beach State, California Baptist, Hope International and UC Santa Barbara.

Alisa Murray led the way for BU with her 12th-place finish at 18:39.31. It was second best among runners that were not running unattached or as individuals.

Coming in just a few seconds behind her was Melissa Ledesma. The freshman finished the 5k course in 18:53.62 to finish 17th overall and fourth among counting runners.

"Alisa ran very aggressively and really put herself out there as a contender in this race," said Henning. "She hit a wall early on but battled down the stretch to set her personal best. I though Melissa showed a lot of heart too, and she continues to make big jumps each race."

Ledesma also beat out her previous personal best by about 20 seconds.

Rounding out the Eagles' runners were Hannah Hunsaker (19:14.11), Mikaela Martin (19.28.77), Hannah Feehan (19:30.30) and Delanie Eng (21:03.00).

Omar Ledezma was the only one running for Biola on the men's side. He ran his second best time of the season by finishing in 27:40.18 and placing 65th overall in a gutsy performance.

His problem part of the race came in miles three and four, but according to Henning he whipped things back into shape down the stretch as the final mile of the race was run on the CSUF track.

Biola Cross Country has the next two weeks off before it hosts the 2015 Golden State Athletic Conference Championship at Irvine Regional Park on Nov. 7.
