Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was another heartbreaking day at Eagles Diamond as Biola dropped its 10
th straight game in a Golden State Athletic Conference defeat at the hands of No. 12 The Master's College.
Â
Biola seemed to have all of its ducks in a row when they got on the Mustangs' starter Tommy Kister in the early going.
Â
The Eagles batted around in the first inning and put up four runs on The Master's' big ace. Biola was hitting everything Kister could get over the plate and picked up seven base knocks in the inning.
Â
It seemed early on as if it was Biola who should be the first place team and the Mustangs the last place team. The Eagles tacked on one more run in the third inning to cruise to their 5-0 lead and knock Kister out of the game.
Â
Jason Karkenny was the reliever to fill in for Kister and he did a masterful job of getting the Eagles under his control. He allowed just one hit over his 5.2 innings, as opposed to the eight hits allowed by Kister in his 1.1 innings.
Â
He made it possible for the Mustangs to begin to chip away at Biola's lead as they started to chink the armor of the Eagles'
Garrett Picha.
Â
Picha began the game throwing smoke and keeping TMC's hitters off balance as he sped through the first three innings unscathed.
Â
He was strong all day long, going 7.1 innings and carrying a big load for Head Coach
Jay Sullenger's taxed pitching staff.
Â
He was perfect until a Jonathan Popadics homerun in the fourth inning made it a 5-2 game. Two more runs in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings gave the Mustangs their eventual 8-5 advantage and handed Picha his fourth loss of the year.
Â
It was a tough break for the Eagles as they had a solid day at the dish, outhitting the Mustangs 16-13 and getting 19 runners on base in the losing effort.
Â
Jimmy Gallarda had a breakout day as he went 3-for-3 and tacked on two RBI. Both of the Farringtons also had strong afternoons, combining for five hits, two runs and three RBI. They both extended their team-leading hitting streaks as well.
Boone Farrington has hit safely in seven straight and
Johnny Farrington has hits in the last six.
Â
Biola falls to 8-23 (4-15 GSAC) and faces The Master's again for a doubleheader tomorrow at noon.
