Box Score FULLERTON, Calif. --- Biola lost its third consecutive Golden State Athletic Conference game on Tuesday night, and now finds itself in a three-way tie for fourth place and just one loss out of last place in the conference.
Â
It has been a rough week and a half slide for the Eagles, after the emotional high of the back-to-back-to-back upset victories over ranked opponents that put them all alone in second place in the GSAC.
Â
Tonight's 50-49 road loss at Hope International completed the trifecta of disappointing outcomes for Biola, as the team lost its third straight by five points or less.
Â
Tuesday's contest was back-and-forth throughout, and was not completely decided until HIU's Garrett Neilan grabbed a rebound off of
Mike Kurtz's missed tip-in with just one second left on the clock.
Â
Biola had one final chance after a kicked ball violation by the Royals got them the ball back with six seconds to play. In that six seconds two of the Eagles' best players, Kurtz and
Pierre Zook, had a chance to score, and both came up empty.
Â
In fact, many players came up empty over the final stretch, as no points were scored over the final two minutes and 33 seconds.
Â
That's right, none.
Â
It was a strange sequence of missed jumpers, turnovers and missed three-pointers that resulted in the absence of offense at the end of this already low-scoring affair.
Â
Biola simply did not shoot the ball consistently enough from the floor to earn a victory in tonight's contest. It was a game where the teams were so evenly matched that nearly every statistical category aligned, except shooting percentage.
Â
Biola went just 38 percent from the floor, while the Royals hit 42 percent of their attempts. That four percent difference resulted in the one extra point HIU needed to seal its 17
th victory of the season.
Â
The Royals defense also did everything it could to help their cause. They had a big performance out of their big men, picking up six blocks in the game.
Â
Dakari Archer did what he could to help Biola try and get a win, leading all scorers with 21 points while shooting over 50 percent from the field. He was the only Eagle to hit double-digits, while the Royals had three score 10-plus.
Â
Andre Murillo picked up six points in not-so-limited minutes in his return from a leg injury.
Â
Biola falls to 15-12 after the loss, and its 5-6 GSAC record puts the team in a precarious position in the conference with just three more regular season games to go.
Â
Biola travels to No. 15 Concordia on Saturday for a rematch with the Eagles of Irvine. The last time these two squads met it was Biola walking away with a 76-73 win in a double-overtime thriller inside Chase Gymnasium.
