Biola experienced losses for the first time this season as they dropped both games on the road at APU

Mackenzie Magro was one of the few Eagles' hitters who was good with the stick today, going 2-for-3 in game two.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AZUSA, Calif. --- The streak was snapped on Saturday as the 2014 Biola softball squad suffered its first two losses of the season.

Both games were close, competitive and challenging, but Biola found itself on the wrong end of both matches of a twinbill against Azusa Pacific.

"Coming into the games at APU, we knew we would be challenged," said Head Coach Lorie Coleman. "We definitely did not bring our 'A-game' today. We had many opportunities to score runs, and came up short."

The Eagles' offense had 56 chances at the dish throughout the doubleheader, but only managed to mount three runs throughout the day. The result of the lackluster offensive attempts was a 3-2 loss followed by a 3-1 loss to the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II opponent.

CeCe Luster got the ball to start both games, and was saddled with both losses to move to 4-2 on the season. She surrendered three earned runs over the course of her combined five innings in the circle.

Reba DePriest got the ball for the other half of each game, and was her usual self, allowing just one unearned run and striking out 11 over her seven innings.

Biols started the scoring in game two, holding a one-run lead over APU for a half of an inning, but other than that they were looking up at the Cougars all day long.

The one run scored by the Eagles in game two came off the bat of Heather Hall. The Eagles' third-baseman hit a solo homerun, to give her two over the course of her last three games.

Outside of that, there was not much offense to make note of, as the Eagles' bats were well-neutralized by APU's three-woman pitching staff.

Mackenzie Magro and Celina Thornton each had one 2-for-3 game, making them the only Eagles with multi-hit games on the day.

Despite some struggles on the mound, Luster managed to reach base safely in both of today's games, extending her streak to nine straight games.

The losses drop Biola to 7-2 on the season and improve the Cougars to 8-2 overall.

"APU did a good job of showing us our weaknesses," said Coleman. "We will take advantage of that exposure and work on improving in those areas."

The Eagles have a few days to work out the kinks, before they return to Freedom Field to take on Embry-Riddle in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday.
