Box Score EL CAJON, Calif. --- After some huge, late three-point makes by
Dakari Archer make it a game, the Eagles have to start fouling, and four straight made free throws by San Diego Christian sinks them, 73-70.
Â
Archer had a huge night, leading the Eagles with 17 points in an expanded role at San Diego. None of those points were bigger than his back-to-back three-pointers that brought Biola within one with just 23 seconds to play.
Â
The Eagles could not finish off the Hawks, as Rafael Rodriguez makes four of four from the line within the final 22 seconds to seal a three-point Hawks win.
Â
Mike Kurtz also reached double-digits, making 15 points and shooting nearly perfect from the free-throw line in order to hold down the fort for Biola in the post. He was also his usual self on the defensive end, putting up 15 boards overall. Two of those 15 rebounds came late off of missed free throws from the Hawks. They eventually led the Archer's made three-pointers.
Â
San Diego Christian improves to 8-10 (4-5 GSAC) after the upset win over the No. 22 Eagles. Biola drops to 15-10 (5-4 GSAC), but holds onto its place in the Golden State Athletic Conference standings as Concordia and Arizona Christian also suffer losses.
Â
After a tight first period, the two teams were within two of one another at halftime, and Head Coach
Dr. Dave Holmquist began to make some adjustments to his team's gameplan.
Â
The adjustments worked, as Biola came out on fire in the second half. They used a 13-4 run to start the half to build their biggest lead of the contest, a seven-point advantage with 15 minutes to play.
Â
Then, slowly, San Diego Christian began to make their charge. It took just under 14 minutes to do, but by riding a long 34-19 run the Hawks flip-flopped the large advantage. They now found themselves up by eight with less than a minute to play.
Â
Missed Hawks free-throws, Archer's made shots from deep, and Rodriguez's clutch shots from the charity stripe all transpired in that final minute, leaving SDCC with a win, and the Eagles stunned. Archer and
Colin Bossio each had a shot from deep as the clock ticked to zero, but Biola would have no such luck.
Â
The Eagles return to the court this Saturday evening. They will host The Master's, the current last place team in the conference, at 7:30 p.m. It is a "Biola Blackout," and all fans are encouraged to wear all black.
