Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Huge numbers from
Andre Murillo and huge numbers in the second half help Biola cruise to a 32-point win over West Coast Baptist College.
Â
Murillo entered his highest scoring output of the season with 27 points and he was a beast on the boards getting 15 rebounds, almost evenly split offensive and defensive.
Â
His night was huge, but the whole Biola team put up gaudy numbers as they fell just shy of what would have been their first 100-point game since a 138-105 shootout win over Redlands in November 2006.
Â
All five Eagles starters reached double-digit point marks, including
Grant Corsi who hit 10-plus for the first time in his career with 13 points.
Â
The game opened with domination by Biola's bigs, Murillo and
Mike Kurtz, and WCBC's three-point shooters. Kurtz and Murillo scored 10 of the Eagles' first 11 points, and WCBC opened the game with four consecutive three-pointers.
Â
The entire first half was close, with neither team budging from their offensive gameplan, and neither team seeming to have a defensive gameplan. It was a very slim two-point Biola lead at the half.
Â
West Coast Baptist drew a blank in the second half as they dropped their shooting percentage from above 45 percent to exactly 20 percent. BU outscored the visiting Eagles by 30 points in the second half and ran away with the huge 98-66 win.
Â
Biola was able to run up the score in the second half thanks to the poor shooting from WCBC and their ability to absolutely dominate the rebound battle. The Eagles won the battle of the boards by nearly double WCBC's output, 53-28.
Â
Twenty of the Eagles' 53 boards came on the offensive end, leading to 22 second chance points. They were also the clearly more physical team, putting up 46 points in the paint.
Â
Biola was incredibly efficient from the field, shooting over 52 percent for just the fourth time this season. Their 44 percent three-point percentage was their third best output of the season.
Â
The win helps the Eagles improve to 10-6 as they conclude their preseason. They open conference play against Westmont (11-3) next Tuesday. West Coast Baptist drops to 2-19 with the loss. Â
