Comeback Comes Up Short

Biola put forth a valiant effort late, but fell just three points short.

Dakari Archer led Biola's late surge and ended the game with 17 points and six boards.
Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was one of the most intense, pressure-packed and exciting finishes in recent history inside Chase Gymnasium; it ended in favor of San Diego Christian, but it took a valiant effort on behalf of the Eagles to even make it a game.

Biola found itself down 43-29 to the Hawks after a rough first 20 minutes, with little going for them on either end of the court and turnovers sinking them into a deep hole.

They shot 44 percent from the floor, but were outdueled by San Diego Christian's deadly 57 percent in the half. Trevor English was especially deadly for the Hawks, going 5-8 from the floor and putting up 12 points.

The second half was a completely different story as Biola caught fire and made a huge late run to close the gap and get back in game.

Dakari Archer was key to the Eagles' run, scoring nine points in the half and sinking some key layups right down the stretch.

"We played much better defense in the second half," said Head Coach Dr. Dave Holmquist. "A lot of guys did a lot of good things to help us in the second half. Unfortunately, a few things at the very end did not go our way.

After falling down by 13 points with nine minutes to play, the Eagles went on a 20-8 run that brought them back in the game.

Andre Murillo was the only player on the court who got a double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while showing extreme toughness leading the charge in Biola's stretch run.

After bringing the deficit to within one, a very deep three-pointer by Derek Dickerson made it so that the Eagles fell just short, losing 73-70 to the Hawks. The loss drops Biola to 11-8 (1-2 GSAC) and improves the Hawks to 6-6 (2-1 GSAC).

Biola returns to conference play with a road game at The Master's on Saturday night.
