LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Three first year runners highlighted a very successful season for women's cross country, culminated by their second Golden State Athletic Conference championship in the last three years.
 
The men's team impressed at Biola's only home cross country event of the year, the 2012 West Coast Jamboree. The Eagles placed third for the third consecutive meet, tying their best finish of the year.
 
Kellian Hunt, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-American, had her coming out party at the GSAC championship race, placing third and leading the contingent of freshman that secured three of the top 10 spots in the conference. Hunt was joined by Neysa Mains (5^th), Ilima Kung (10^th), Rachel Stump (13^th) and Chelsea Janzen (14^th) as the scorers for the Eagles.
 
"I was extremely pleased with how the women ran as it is a very competitive conference and you cannot take any thing for granted," said Head Coach Jonathan Zimmerman. "We've been working towards this all season and it was rewarding to come out on top this time."
 
This race was a turning point for the Biola women, as it was their third consecutive win. The event also helped eight Eagles qualify for the NAIA National Championships. Danny Ledesma, the sole qualifier on the men's side, would go on to finish 114^th in the country.
 
The West Coast Jamboree was a turning point for the men's team because they got a chance to shine in front of a home crowd. Biola had three of the top eight runners in the event, and finished just behind The Master's and Westmont.
 
Ledesma (3^rd), Andrew Daedler (7^th), Spencer Lyle (8^th), Andrew Edmondson (31^st) and Shane Brinson (33^rd) earned the Eagles 78 points.
