Box Score AZUSA, Calif. --- For the first time this season,
Nick Turner allowed a run, surrendering a total of seven as Biola lost the second game of a non-conference, four-game series against Azusa Pacific by a score of 7-2 on Friday night at the Cougar Baseball Complex.
The Eagles drop to 10-5 on the season while the Cougars pick up just their second win of the season to go to 2-6 overall.
Turner struggled for the first time this season as Azusa Pacific was able to get all of its runs in the first three innings. The Cougars struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Biola answered back with two runs in the top of the second. Will Lawrence led off the inning with a single and stole second. After a walk and a ground out, Johnny Farrington brought home Lawrence with a suicide squeeze. David McNeill, who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning, came around to score on an infield single by Paul Slater to tie the game at 2-2.
The Cougars took back the lead with a two-out run in the bottom of the second, then added four runs in the third to chase Turner.
The Eagles brought in David Schwab in relief and he pitched a scoreless final 5-2/3 innings, scattering two hits and walking three with one strikeout.
Biola would struggle against the Cougars' arms, not advancing a runner past second base over the final seven innings.
The two teams close out the four-game set on Saturday at Biola with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 am.
