Battle Blocks

22 total blocks highlight another intense home GSAC match the Eagles walked away with.

Amy Weststeyn (18) picked up two solo blocks and six block assists as BU and VUSC combine for 22 blocks.
Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- After a fantastic first set from No. 12 Vanguard, the No. 3 Eagles rebounded and took a huge 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-23) win straight from the Lions' mouth.

Gracee Gallarda and Chelsee Arnitz both had huge games as the Eagles draw nearer to the end of their seniors' final regular season. Arnitz led everyone with 17 kills, hitting at a .433 clip. Gallarda set up those kills and more as she played her way to 54 assists, the third highest single-match total of her four-year career.

Amy Weststeyn (14) and Britta Blaser (10) also had double-digit kills for the Eagles, who won their eighth conference match of the year, and their 18th overall. They also pushed their home winning streak to 12 straight games.

Both teams had a huge night blocking the ball, which was to be expected as two of the three best blocking teams in the Golden State Athletic Conference met, each squad picked up 11 total blocks. Weststeyn had a great night in front of the net, picking up two solo blocks and six block assists. She partnered with Joclyn Kirton for many of those blocks, as Kirton picked up five block assists.

The two solo blocks pushed Weststeyn into 15th on Biola's all-time solo block list with 71. She also moved up into the top five all-time in total blocks by pushing her career mark to 340.

Gallarda also hit some career milestones tonight by moving into BU's top five in career assists with 3,179 and picking up her 100th career service ace.

It was a tight first set, with Vanguard leading most of the way thanks to some spectacular digging and a strong attack percentage, but after the loss and a lackluster first frame the Eagles kicked it into high gear and ran away with the rest of the match.

Biola looked stellar in set two, hitting for their best percentage of the night (.424) and picking up 16 kills. They hit 16 kills in three of the four sets played on Tuesday.

Set three was chronicled by the Lions absolute inability to hit the ball consistently. Vanguard hit -.103 in the set and suffered from nine attack errors in just 29 total attacks.

Set four was the most evenly matched game of the evening, but Biola pulled it out thanks to some strong serving late and of course more than a few blocks.

The win moves Biola to 18-2 (7-1 GSAC) and drops Vanguard to 17-6 (5-4 GSAC). The Eagles take their .900 winning percentage to Fullerton on Saturday to square off with the 5-16 (1-7 GSAC) Hope International Royals.
