SAN DIEGO --- Running as the only non-NCAA Division I school in feature race, Biola placed its top five runners in the top 16 and finished second overall at the 2012 San Diego State University Aztec Invitational on Saturday at Balboa Park in San Diego.

The Eagles scored 47 points to finish in second place, just eight points behind USC (39 points. Host San Diego State University finished third with 50 pointsbehind host San Diego State University (50 points) and USC (39 points). Biola was able to place its top five runners within 36 seconds of each other and all in the top 16.

Leading the way for Biola was freshman Kellian Hunt, who placed sixth overall in a time of 19:03. Junior Chelsea Janzen was close behind in eighth place in 19:10 followed by senior Rachel Stump in 9th place with a time of 19:11. Rounding out the top five was junior Kasey Schalich in 13th place (19:29) and Freshman Ilima Kung in 16th (19:39).

Also running for Biola was freshman Neysa Mains (20th - 19:51), freshman Anika Gasner (32nd - 20:23), freshman Brooke Arvidson (34th - 20:28), senior Carly Tillery (40th - 20:56) and freshman Alisa Murray (44th - 21:01). "Good effort overall by the team. It was a good showing on a very challenging course with good competition and hot weather," said Head Coach Jonathan Zimmerman. "Just 36 seconds between our 1-5 runners is very good considering those factors. The upperclassmen [Janzen, Stump, and Schalich] were outstanding competitors today. We've got things to work on though but there is plenty of time to do so."

Biola is next scheduled to run at the 2012 Master's College Mustang Challenge next Saturday (Sept. 22) at 8:00 am in Santa Clarita.
