Benji Sutherland
Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Both pitchers tossed complete games with Biola coming out on the losing end, falling 4-2 to No. 14 Concordia in the second game of a four-game GSAC series on Friday afternoon at Eagles Diamond.

The loss is the second straight for Biola, which falls to 17-18 on the season and to 10-8 in GSAC play. Concordia moves two games up on Biola for second place in the conference at 12-6 and moves to 22-11 overall.

Biola starter Chris Baek tossed his second-straight complete game, needing just 124 pitches to accomplish the feat. He allowed four runs--three earned--and allowed 10 hits while striking out seven. However, his competition matched him pitch for pitch. Thomas Hoenshell earned the victory by allowing two runs on 11 hits recording just one strikeout but surrendering two runs.

Concordia got the early drop in the game with a run in the top of the first. Ty Holm led off the game with a double and moved to third on ground out. One out later, Spencer Ofelt came through with a single up the middle to bring home the first run.

In the second, CUI quickly added another in the second inning as Chris Kuber connected on his first home run of the year--a solo shot to left which made it a 2-0 game.

Concordia broke the game open with a pair of runs to double the lead. With two out and a runner at second, Holm drove home the third run with a single. He would come around to score on a throwing error to make it a 4-0.

In the fifth inning, Biola cut the lead in half. With one out, Michael Annunziata and Johnny Farrington each singled to put two on base. Benji Sutherland then continued his hot hitting with a double down the right field line to bring home the pair. However, despite getting to third with two out, Biola could not bring home Sutherland and trailed 4-2 after the fifth.

Biola's next best chance came in the seventh as Mike Lopez led off the frame with a double down the left-field line. That was followed with a single to left to put runners at the corners with no one out. Farrington then drilled a shot up the middle which was snagged by Hoenshell, who calmly threw over to third to double up pinch-runner Paul Slater for the easy double-play to end the threat.

Biola closes out the series with Concordia on Saturday with a big doubleheader in Irvine beginning at Noon.
