LA MIRADA, Calif. ---
Chase Adams scored a season-high 25 points, hitting 8-of-11 from the field including six three-pointers to lead Biola to a 75-67 victory over The Master's College on Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the GSAC Tournament.
The win is the 10th in the last 11 games for the third-seeded Eagles, who move into the GSAC Semifinals where they face No. 2 seed Point Loma Nazarene on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Concordia University. Concordia faces Azusa Pacific in the other semifinal at 7:30 p.m.
Adams had a tough time missing from the field, especially from beyond the arc where he hit 6-of-9 including numerous from NBA range. Andre Murillo added 13 points and eight rebounds with Kaimarr Price scoring seven points and adding 10 rebounds.
The Mustangs (17-14) received 23 points from Devin Dyer with Anthony Cammon adding 20. Leif Karlberg contributed 12 points, but no other players scored more than three.
The Master's opened up a quick five-point lead in the game at 8-3 four minutes into the game. However, Biola quickly took back the lead with a three-pointer by Adams two minutes later. Leading by just three at 19-16 with 10:40 to play in the half, Biola used an 11-0 run over the next four minutes to take its largest lead of the game at 30-16 with 6:31 left.
The Mustangs cut into the lead with back-to-back three-pointers and a fast break layup made it a five point lead, but Biola would take a 39-32 lead to the half.
The second half would see the game stay between six and 12 points through much of the half. However, as was the case when the two teams met on Saturday, The Master's rally late. A three-pointer by Karlberg cut the Biola lead to 67-62 with 3:38 to play. The Mustangs would steal the in-bounds pass, but Dakota Anderson stole the ball right back and Davey Hopkins would score a bucket in the paint to stretch the lead back to seven with 3:09 to go.
The Eagles would follow that up with another big steal by Given Kalipinde which lead to a fast-break laying by Adams.
With 1:38 left the Mustangs would again make the game close with Dyer hitting a three-pointer to again pull within six. But they were unable to score again the rest of the way with Adams sealing the deal with a pair of clutch free throws with 33 seconds left.
Kalipinde had a solid game despite hitting just 2-of-11 from the field. The junior scored six points but hauled down eight rebounds and added five steals.
In the GSAC's other quarterfinals, No. 1 seed Concordia narrowly edged No. 8 Fresno Pacific, 87-83. No. 2 Point Loma had little trouble dispatching of No. 7 Vanguard, winning easily 97-80. No. 4 Azusa Pacific survived a close contest at home, defeating No. 5 Westmont, 57-54.
Biola faces No. 2 Point Loma Nazarene while No. 1 Concordia takes on No. 4 Azusa Pacific in Saturday's semifinals. The winners meet in the GSAC Championship game on Tuesday. There is a chance BIola could host that game, should the Eagles defeat Point Loma and Azusa Pacific beats Concordia. In that scenario, Biola would host Azusa Pacific for the GSAC Tournament title.
