Adijat Adams scored 16 points and added 12 rebounds and
Chelsea Hill added 10 as Biola used a big first half to cruise to a 60-48 win over Cal Maritime in a non-conference game on Friday in Vallejo.
The Eagles improve to 5-4 on the season with the win while dropping the Keelhaulers to 1-10.
Adams had an impressively balanced night, scoring eight points and adding six rebounds in each half. She hit 7-of-11 from the field and added four assists and a steal. Hill was 4-for-7 from the field and finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
Biola came out with a strong performance in the first half, hitting 63 percent from the field including 17-of-27 from the field over the first 20 minutes.
The game started off at an even pace with the teams tied at 10-10 five minutes into the contest. Biola was able to open up an eight-point lead on a three-pointer by
Aubree Mittel which put the Eagles up 21-13 with 11:56 left in the half. Cal Maritime closed the back with a quick five-point run. But the Eagles went off, using a 20-0 run over the next nine minutes to take a commanding 41-18 lead just before the half. Biola headed to the break with a 43-22 lead.
The Eagles continued their strong play to start the second half with an 8-2 run to take their biggest lead at 51-24 just over four minutes into the second half. But just like Biola in the first half, the Keelhaulers went on a long run, doubling their point total with a 24-5 run over the next 11 minutes. A pair of free throws with 4:56 to play cut the Biola lead to single digits at 56-48. But those were the final points Cal Maritime would score as the Eagles held strong down the stretch for the 12-point win.
After shooting so well in the first half, Biola connected on just 7-of-23 for 30.4 percent in the second half and was outscored 26-17 in the period. However, the Eagles finished by hitting 48 percent of their shots overall to Cal Maritime's 29.6 percent.
Javier Brantley led the way for the Keelhaulers with 17 points and four steals. She was the lone Cal Maritime player with more than six points.
Biola closes out the trip to the Bay area on Saturday with a visit to Menlo College at 6:00 p.m. The Oaks are a perfect 9-0 on the season including a 79-61 win over Oregon Tech on Friday night. Live video for the game is available at http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/menlo.portal#.
