Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Andre Murillo recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds and Biola's defense shutdown No. 1 Concordia's high-scoring offense to pull off an 83-68 upset victory in a GSAC game between two NAIA Top 15 teams on Saturday night at Chase Gymnasium.

Biola, ranked No. 15 in the NAIA, improves to 12-4 on the season and moves to 2-2 in GSAC play while Concordia drops to 13-2 and to 3-1 in the conference.

Murillo led all five Biola starters in double-figures with 20 points and 11 rebounds with Chase Adams adding 19 points.

The story of the game was Biola's defense, which held Concordia's high-scoring offense to a season-low 68 points. Concordia entered the game with the second-highest scoring average in the NAIA at 94.9, but shot just 36.9% in the game including 28.1% in teh first half as Biola jumped out to a big lead early on.

Biola never trailed in the game, jumping all over Concordia in the first period. Thanks to its solid defense Biola opened up an early 24-6 lead 10 minutes into the game and led by as many as 23 in the opening stanza. Concordia started to pick it up near the end of the half, but trailed by 20 at the break.

In the second half, Concordia answered back, using a 12-point run midway through the second half to cut the Biola lead to seven at 58-51 with 8:17 to play. But that would be the closest Concordia would get the rest of the way. Biola responded with a bucket from Zack Zaragoza, then a fastbreak layup by Given Kalipinde to make it a 62-51 game with 7:16 left.

Concordia would make one last-ditch run, closing to within eight at 68-60 with 3:43 to go and still trailed by nine ay 72-63 with 2:15 to play. But Biola was determined to not let the late lead slip away in a repeat of Tuesday's loss at Azusa Pacific. Zaragoza made sure that didn't happen, as he hit a pair of free throws and--after a great defensive stand resulted in a Concordia turnover--added a tough layup to stretch the lead back to 13 with 1:16 to go.

Biola absolutely dominated the boards, out-rebounding Concordia 50-30, including a 16-11 edge in offensive rebounds.

Concordia stayed in the game thanks to two things: Biola turnovers and Tim Harris. Biola committed 22 turnovers--far fewer than in the past against Concordia's up-tempo defense. Those miscues led to 30 of Concordia's points.

Harris also had a monster night, scoring a season-high 29 points on 10-of-15 shooting. He also had a team-high three steals and hit Concordia's four three-pointers on the night.

Biola's defense effectively shutdown the rest of Concordia's offensive threats, including holding Cameron Gliddon to just one point, well under his average of 15.4 which ranks fifth-best in the GSAC. The conference's leading scorer Austin Simon had 16 points--two under his average--and added four assists and five rebounds.

Biola was without the services of Kaimarr Price, who suffered an injury at the end of Tuesday's loss at Azusa Pacific. Kalipinde, who is also not at 100% after suffering an injury two weeks ago, played despite the pain and picked up his second double-double of the season.

Davey Hopkins had a solid 38 minutes for Biola, scoring 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field while Zaragoza rounded out the starters in double-figures with 11.

Biola's bench players also came up big in the victory. Kyle Bailey, had just three points and three rebounds, but played solid defense, forcing three steals and recording a block in 15 big minutes off the bench. Dakota Anderson also made a big contribution in his 18 minutes, running the point and scoring four points before having to sit late due to foul trouble.

The victory over the top-ranked team was believed to be Biola's first since defeating Azusa Pacific 63-62 during the 1992-93 season. It was also Biola's second-straight win over Concordia after a shocking 73-71 win over then-No. 2 Concordia at the end of last season.

Biola returns to the court on Tuesday to host GSAC rival Westmont College at 7:30 p.m.
