Adijat Adams recorded her first double-double of the season with 19 points and 14 rebounds and
Chelsea Hill added 16 points as Biola cruised to a 73-45 win over Fresno Pacific University in a GSAC game on Tuesday night.
The Eagles improve to 10-6 on the season and move to 3-4 in GSAC play with the victory. The Sunbirds drop to 11-8 overall and to 3-4 in the conference.
While Adams and Hill helped pace the offense, Biola's defense was dominant on the other end. The Eagles, who rank third in the NAIA in scoring defense, held the GSAC's third-highest scoring team to just 45 points and a 21.9% shooting percentage.
After a low-scoring start to the game saw the teams combine for just 11 points through the first eight minutes, Biola used a 9-0 run over the next five minutes to take a 15-5 with 7:54 to go in the half. Fresno Pacific picked up its scoring and cut the lead to five at 16-11over the next two minutes.
Still up by five with 5:20 to Biola closed out the half on a 9-1 run keyed by a three-pointer and long jumper by Jamie Elias to take a 27-14 lead at the break.
Fresno Pacific cut the lead to 12 on a number of occasions early in the second half before Biola pulled away for good. Leading 37-25, the Eagles used a long 15-4 run to take a 52-29 lead with 9:28 to go. Biola would stretch its lead to as many as 34 late in the game before settling for the 28-point win.
The Eagles shot well overall to support their defensive effort, hitting 45.3% from the field including 54.5% in the second half. Jamie Elias hoped the cause with 11 points and hit 5-of-8 from the field with Amy Freet contributing eight points in 16 minutes of play.
Jenay Herring contributed 18 points for the Sunbirds and was the only player with more than five points for the visitors.
Biola dominated inside, holding a 54-36 rebounding edge and outscoring the Sunbirds 4-16 in the paint.
Biola takes a short break before heading south for a non-conference clash against Cal State San Marcos on Thursday. The game will be played at Mira Costa College and tip off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
