LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Over three weeks after it was supposed to take place, Biola's series against Vanguard came to an end. Drake Fages recorded four RBIs including a bases-clearning double to lift the Eagles past the Lions 7-6 in a seven-run game on Monday afternoon at Eagles Diamond.

Biola, ranked No. 7 in the latest NAIA National Poll, improve to 25-14 and move to within 1/2 game of first place in the GSAC with a 19-8 conference mark. Vanguard falls to 17-21 and to 13-15 in GSAC play as Biola eventually takes three of four games in the series.

Biola received a solid day from Fages, who went 1-for-3 with four RBIs, his team-leading 14th multi-RBI game. His performance helped get Kyle Atkins a victory after he allowed just four runs on six hits over five innings to improve to 4-3.

The Eagles got off to a quick start with two runs scored after just four batters in the top of the first inning. Garrett Leon led off with a single and came around to score the first run on a double to deep left-center field by Michael Andrews to make it 1-0. After a single by Vinnie Fayard, Fages collected his first RBI with a sacrifice fly to center.

Vanguard tied the contest in the top of the third as Sean Wilson drove home a pair of runs with a double. The Lions would then take the lead in the fourth thanks to back-to-back home runs by Jason Dovel and Kyle Hardman to make it a 4-2 game.

Biola quickly responded with a five-run bottom of the fourth. With two out and a runner at first, the Eagles went to work. Three-straight walks gave Biola its first run of inning and was followed by an RBI-single by David McNeill, who came in to replace Fayard in the third after the junior was injured in the field. Fages then stepped up and cleared the bases with a double to left-center to make it 7-4.

Vanguard made things interesting in the sixth as Hardman hit his second home run in as many at-bats, a two-run shot to left to make it a 7-6 game. But despite allowing the two-run shot, Cameron McVey shut down the Lions the rest of the way to earn his 10th save of the season.

Biola returns to action on Wednesday, opening a key GSAC series against No. 12 Fresno Pacific University, which currently sits two games out of first place in the conference. The first two games are in Fresno on Wednesday and Thursday at 3:00 p.m. with the series concluding on Saturday with a doubleheader in La Mirada.
