LA MIRADA, Calif. --- After battling back from a pair of deficits late in the game, a ninth inning home run lifted Cal State San Marcos to a 12-11 non-conference win over Biola on Monday afternoon at Eagles Diamond.

The Eagles drop to 14-9 and see their five-game winning-streak come to and end. The Cougars improve to 14-9.

The wild affair saw scoring in 13 of the 18 half innings. While Biola pounded out 15 hits in the game, Cal State San Marcos needed just eight thanks to 13 walks issued by the Eagles' seven pitchers.

The Cougars opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first on a walk and wild pitch. The Eagles took the lead with two in the bottom of the first as Garrett Leon and Mac Sullivan had run-scoring singles.

But Cal State San Marcos answered back with three runs in the second to go up 4-2. Biola got one back in its half of the second on an RBI-double by Boone Farrington only to see the Cougars get that run back on a sacrifice fly in the third and add another in the fourth on an error.

Boone Farrington drove home another run in the bottom of the fourth with a single to score Vinnie Fayard, but San Marcos scored two more runs in the fifth and one in the top of the sixth to take a commanding 9-4 lead.

Biola made things interesting in the bottom of the sixth by tying the game with a five-run inning. With the bases loaded and two out, the Eagles got their first run on a bases-load walk, followed by a bases-clearing double off the bat of Drake Fages. Fages then scored on a pinch-hit single by James Petrilli to tie the game.

But the Cougars were able to take back the lead in the top of the seventh with one run off an error and another off a ground out to go on top 11-9.

The scoring wasn't over, though as Biola tied things up in the eighth thanks to a two-run home run by Mac Sullivan.

But the Cougars put the final run on the board in the top of the ninth as Austin Coleman led off the top of the ninth with a solo home run.

The Eagles put a run on to lead off the bottom of the ninth, but a line-out double-play ended the threat and the game.

Biola's Cameron McVey suffered the loss, his first of the season, while Kyle Smart earned the win.

Sullivan went 3-for-4 in the game with a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs.

Biola returns to GSAC play on Wednesday, traveling to El Cajon to take on Cal State San Marcos in the first game of a four-game series which ends on Saturday in La Mirada with a doubleheader at Noon.
