Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola had a rough first night in GSAC play, falling 65-39 to No. 10 Vanguard in its conference opener on Saturday night at Chase Gymnasium.
The Eagles had a tough night all around, seeing its three-game winning streak snapped as they all to 5-2 on the season and to 0-1 in conference play. The Lions improve 6-1 overall and to 2-0 in the GSAC.
Biola struggled from the field throughout the game, shooting 30 percent while Vanguard connected on 40 percent of his shots including hitting nine three-pointers including eight in the pivotal first half.
Things started out well for the Eagles as the two teams battled back and forth through the first half of the first period. Emily Drews nailed a three-pointer with 12:15 to go to give Biola a one-point lead at 15-14. After a three on the other end by Vanguard, Charisse Reece hit a runner in the lane to tie the score at 17-17 with 11:09 to go.
But that would be it for the Eagles using a long 21-2 run over the next nine minutes to take a commanding 39-19 lead with 2:39 to go. Biola would score the final four points of the half to make it a 39-23 game at halftime.
However, the Eagles would struggle from the field in the second half, hitting just 7-of-26 shots and getting no closer than 16 the rest of the way.
Chelsea Hill led Biola with nine points while Adijat Adams scored eight.
TJ Goddard scored 16 points to pace Vanguard while Alison Drennan added 14. The pair combined to hit 5-of-10 from three-point range.
Biola returns to action on Thursday, hosting La Sierra University in a non-conference contest at Chase Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.
