No. 15 Biola Cruises to 83-53 Win in GSAC Opener

Chase Adams
Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Chase Adams recorded his first double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and adding 11 rebounds as Biola opened GSAC play with a 83-53 victory over Vanguard University on Saturday night at Chase Gymnasium.

The Eagles improve to 6-1 on the season, moving to 1-0 in GSAC play. The Lions fall to 6-4 and to 1-1 in the conference.

Adams was one of five players in double-figures for Biola with Lamar Lee coming off the bench to score 13 including a game-high three three-pointers. Davey Hopkins, playing in his first home game this season after an early-season injury, contributed 12 points and five assists on 6-of-8 shooting.

Will Patchell added 11 points with Given Kalipinde scoring 10 points and just missing a triple-double with eight rebounds and seven assists.

Biola got out to a quick lead in the contest, jumping out to a 10-3 lead just four minutes in. The Eagles would stretch that lead to 25-11 at the 10:27 mark on a three by Lee, making the lead 14. They would not take the foot off the gas the rest of the half and--after a outback by Patchell in the lane with four seconds left--took a 41-23 lead to the halftime intermission.

Vanguard cut the lead to 13 at 50-37 with a quick run early in the second half. However, Biola answered that run with a 17-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 67-39 lead with 8:23 to go. The Lions would get no closer than 24 the rest of the way as the Eagles cruised to the 30-point victory.

Biola shot an impressive 52.5 percent from the field, connecting on 9-of-20 from three-point range while holding Vanguard to just 28.3 percent. The Eagles held a commanding 54-30 rebounding edge as well.

Biola returns to the court on Tuesday, traveling to Santa Clarita to battle The Master's College in a GSAC contest at 7:30 p.m. The game had been scheduled for this past Tuesday, but due to a scheduling conflict, had to be moved to this next week.
