Eagles' Rally Late, But Fall Short in 64-60 Loss to University of Victoria

Andre Murillo
Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Despite trailing by 15 points with just over six minutes to play, Biola did not give up and rallied back to pull to within two points late in the contest. However, the Eagles come-back bid fell just short in a 64-60 loss to the University of Victoria in a non-conference game on Thursday night at Chase Gymnasium.

Biola suffered its first loss in five games, dropping to 10-3 on the season, while the Vikes improve to 10-6 overall.

The Eagles came out sluggish in the contest and trailed by 13 at the half. Things didn't get much better in the first part of the second half as Victoria extended its lead out to as many as 17 with nine minutes remaining in the contest.

But Biola's defense came on strong and held the Vikes without a field goal over the final 11 minutes of the game, cutting the lead down to as few as two late in the contest. While Victoria scored 18 points via free throws down the stretch, Biola caught fire, using a 20-7 run to make it a two-point game at 60-58. However, the Vikes were able to hit clutch free throws down the stretch and held on for the win.

Andre Murillo poured in a game-high 18 points to lead the Eagles, while Davey Hopkins added 12 points and Kaimarr Price contributed 11.

Biola was without star guard Given Kalipende, who had led team in scoring the last two games with over 20 points in each. The junior suffered a minor injury in Wednesday night's game and should be back with the team soon.

The Eagles close out the 2011 calendar year on Friday with their third game in as many days, hosting the University of Calgary beginning at 7:30 p.m.
