Zack Zaragoza scored a game-high 20 points and added eight rebounds to lead Biola to a 76-49 non-conference victory over Arizona Christian University in its home opener at Chase Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles improve to 3-0 on the season with the win while dropping the Firestorm to 1-3.
Zaragoza did not miss much in the game, hitting his first eight shots and finishing 10-of-15 from the field. He added eight rebounds and a block in 27 minutes.
Lamar Lee contributed 12 points while Chase Adams scored 11 for Biola.
Biola rolled out to an early 22-6 lead in the contest, hitting 10 of its first 13 shots over the first 13:17. Arizona Christian closed the gap to 11 with 3:41 to go in the first period, but Biola scored the final seven points of the half to take a 41-23 lead to halftime.
The Eagles opened the second half with an 8-2 run to break the game open and stretch the lead to as many as 33.
Biola shot 52.5 percent in the contest (31-of-59) including a 60.7 percent mark in the first half. The Eagles forced 16 turnovers by the Firestorm and converted those into 22 points. Biola also held Arizona Christian to just 33 percent shooting.
The Eagles return to the court on Monday, hosting Holy Names University in a non-conference contest beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Chase Gymnasium.
