LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Sophomore
Jessica Austin scored twice and assisted on another goal to lead Biola to a 3-0 win over Hope International University in a GSAC match on Tuesday night.
The Eagles improve to 4-5-0 on the season with the victory and even their conference record at 1-1-0. The Royals also finish the day 4-5-0 but are now 0-2-0 in GSAC play.
Austin extended her team lead in goals scored with two to give her five on the season. She also assisted on Biola's other goal for her first helper of the season--all in just 45 minutes of play.
She got the Eagles going early in the contest, receiving a nice through pass from
Miranda Starbeck which lead to a breakaway attempt she easily converted. The goal gave Biola a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute.
In the second half, she helped out on the second Eagle goal, quickly passing to
Michelle Andre who finished from the penalty spot to make it 2-0 in the 65th minute.
Austin would cap the scoring seven minutes later with another breakaway goal. She was fed from the back by
Taylor Lundquist, then weaved through the defense and finished from close range after a quick move to get the keeper going the wrong way.
Biola held a 17-5 shot advantage in the game, but Hope pressed in the final few minutes and created a few scoring chances late. However, Biola goalkeeper
Erin Frushon snuffed all of the opportunites, making one save to earn her third shutout of the season. Frushon has not allowed a goal at home since August 30, a stretch of over 216 minutes.
The Eagles head back on the road this weekend, traveling south to face San Diego Christian College in a GSAC match in El Cajon at 1:00 p.m on Saturday.
