IRVINE, Calif. --- Despite a solid effort against one of the top teams in the NAIA, Biola was unable to walk away with an upset win, falling 2-0 to No. 5 Concordia University (Calif.) in the GSAC opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon in Irvine.
Biola falls to 3-5-0 on the season and to 0-1-0 in GSAC play while Concordia improves to 9-1-0 and to 1-0-0 in the conference.
Biola played well, especially in the first half, creating a number of scoring chances while fending off the high-octane Concordia offense. However, things got much more interesting in the second half as the teams combined for 14 shots.
Concordia was able to get the first goal of the match just under two minutes into the second period. Jacqueline Turner netted the goal just 1:06 into the half. She then assisted on an insurance goal 20 minutes later as Arianna Vaughn scored to make it a 2-0 game.
Biola fired six shots over the final 25 minutes but was unable to find the back of the net as Concordia goalkeeper Bekah Garvin stopped five of those shots.
Biola returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Hope International University on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
