LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The Biola men's basketball team is in the midst of its best season in nearly a decade and looks to extend its run tonight, hosting arch-rival Azusa Pacific University in the GSAC semifinals at Chase Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.
Biola University is serving as the host for the 2009-10 GSAC Tournament Semifinals and Finals which take place Saturday and Tuesday at Chase Gymnasium. The other semifinal game features top-seed Concordia University taking on No. 4 seed Fresno Pacific at 7:30 p.m.
The Eagles (27-4), ranked No. 5 in the NAIA and the second seed in the GSAC tournament, are looking to advance to the GSAC Championship game for the first time in nine seasons tonight, but will have to defeat their arch-rivals to do it. The Cougars (22-9), the No. 3 seed and ranked No. 15 in the NAIA, have been red-hot as of late, winning five-straight games to move up into the national playoff pictures.
Biola won the season series, sweeping Azusa Pacific for the first time since the 2001-02 season. The Eagles crushed the Cougars 85-69 in Azusa and cruised to a 90-77 victory over the Cougars at La Mirada in February.
