Biola Cruises to 87-68 Victory over San Diego Christian

EL CAJON, Calif. --- Junior post Christina Barclay scored 18 points and junior forward Jessilyn Conicelli added 16 points and 12 rebounds as Biola cruised past San Diego Christian 87-68 in a GSAC game on Saturday night at the Ryan Athletic Center.

The victory is the second-straight for the Eagles, who improve to 14-9 on the season and to 10-5 in GSAC play. The Hawks fall to 4-20 overall and to 1-14 in the conference.

Barclay had an impressive night, matching her season-high with 18 points, hitting 9-of-13 from the field, adding four rebounds, three assists and a block in just 21 minutes. Conicelli added her ninth double-double of the season, scoring 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting and had 12 rebounds, contributing six assists, two steals and a block.

Biola got off to yet another quick start, scoring the first seven points of the game and leading 16-7 just under eight minutes in. Leading by five with 9:34 left in the period, Biola went to work, using a 24-4 run over the next seven minutes to take a commanding 25-point lead. The Eagles shot 60.6 percent in the first period, missing just 13 of 33 shots in the half while holding the Hawks to just 25 percent shooting.

With the big lead, Biola had a chance to rest its starters in the second half and the two teams matched each other the rest of the way. The Eagles were able to stretch the lead to as many as 33 before a late charge by the Hawks closed the gap to as few as 16 points.

Overall, Biola hit just under 53 percent of its shots in the game--its second-best shooting night of the season. On defense, the Eagles held the Hawks to 31.3 percent shooting.

Senior guards Chelsea De Luca and Elise Paty each scored 11 points for Biola with Paty connecting on three three-pointers and De Luca adding two.

Biola returns home for a key GSAC game on Tuesday (Feb. 16), hosting Westmont College at 5:30 p.m. at Chase Gymnasium.
