CLAREMONT, Calif. --- Senior
Dwight Gordon scored 17 points while senior
Curtis Eatmon and junior
David Cline each contributed 14 points as Biola had little trouble defeating Pomona-Pitzer College 68-46 in a non-conference game on Saturday night.
The Eagles remain perfect at 4-0 on the season while the Sagehens drop to 0-2.
Gordon poured in 17 on 8-of-12 shooting, leading the team in scoring for the third time in four games and proving his selection of No. 1 on his jersey worthwhile. Eatmon added 14 points and six rebounds while Cline also scored 14 points and three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The two teams got off to a back-and-forth start with Pomona-Pitzer taking an early 8-5 lead on a fastbreak layin by Shawn Stephan. But that would be it for the Sagehens for a while as Biola used a 12-0 run to take a 17-9 lead. The Eagles would extend that lead to 28-12 to help, capping a 23-4 run over a 10 minute spread.
Biola would stretch its lead to 35-14 at intermission. The Eagles held the Sagehens to just 6-of-24 shooting in the opening period and without a three-pointer in eight attempts.
In the second half, Biola continued to pull away. Leading by 20 points, the Eagles used a 12-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at 54-22 with 11:04 to go in the game. Biola emptied its bench and the Sagehens closed the gap to as few as 19 before settling on the 68-46 final.
The Eagles had a dominating 28-18 edge in the paint but also hit 6-of-21 from beyond the arc.
Biola returns home for a non-conference tilt against cross-town rival Whittier College on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m.
