LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Westmont's Melanie Greene scored a goal in the 33rd minute which proved to be the eventual match-winner as the Warriors held off a late charge by Biola to win 1-0 in a GSAC match on Wednesday night.
The loss snaps Biola's four-match unbeaten streak and drops the Eagles to 4-3-2 on the season and to 1-1-1 in GSAC play. Westmont moves to 5-3-2 overall and to 2-1-0 in conference play.
Greene's goal was the lone tally in what was a pretty even contest. She received a nice pass from Jamei Washington and blasted it just under the crossbar in the 33rd minute for her first goal of the season.
Biola had a number of chances to tie the score, taking 10 shots in the match including three on goal. Most of the Eagles' best chances came late in the contest. In the 87th minute, senior
Amy Atkinson sent a nice cross into the box where freshman
Ashleigh Cooley headed the ball on frame only to see Westmont keeper Roxanne Love make the diving stop.
Love made three saves as did Biola netminder
Erin Frushon. Frushon faced 14 shots and made a number of great plays coming off her line to stop other chances.
The loss was the third-straight time Westmont defeated the Eagles 1-0 and the Warriors' fifth-straight victory over Biola. Overall, Westmont has won 23 of 27 all-time series matches.
The Eagles look to snap the losing streak on Saturday (Oct. 9), heading to face arch-rival and No. 2 ranked Azusa Pacific University in a GSAC match at 3:00 p.m. in Azusa.
