Eagles Play to Third-Straight Tie; 1-1 Draw at Fresno Pacific

FRESNO, Calif. --- Biola picked up yet another huge GSAC point with a road tie on Wednesday night, playing Fresno Pacific University to a 1-1 draw at Ramirez Field in Fresno.

The tie is the third-straight for the Eagles, who are now 4-4-5 on the season and 1-2-4 in GSAC play. The Sunbirds move to 6-5-3 and to 3-3-1 in conference action. The match was the eighth overtime match in 13 contests this season.

Fresno Pacific scored first, tallying a goal just under 10 minutes into the contest. Mariah Alvidrez scored on a breakaway attempt to put the Sunbirds up 1-0 early.

Biola turned up the heat after that, outshooting Fresno Pacific 6-2 the rest of the half and eventually tying the match in the 39th minute. Senior Brianna Yarber recorded her first collegiate goal, firing one off the cross bar from the middle of the box to level the score.

Biola had its best chance of the second half in the 74th minute as junior Sarina Coutin headed a shot towards the goal only to see a save made by FPU goalkeeper Sarah King.

Fresno also had a great chance in the waining minutes, as Jessica Castillo blasted a shot on goal. But Erin Frushon was there to make the save to preserve the tie.

In extra time, Fresno recorded for shots while the Eagles were unable to get one off.

A tie moves Biola into seventh place in the conferrence, just two points behind sixth-place Westmont and four behind fourth-place Concordia and Pt. Loma Nazarene. The Eagles host Pt. Loma on Saturday in its penultimate home match, which kicks-off at 4:30 p.m.
