Biola's 11-Match Winning-Streak Comes to an End in Loss at No. 1 Fresno Pacific

Christine Douglas

FRESNO, Calif. --- Biola had its 11-match winning-streak snapped at the hands of top-ranked Fresno Pacific, falling 25-11, 25-20, 25-23 to the Sunbirds in a GSAC match on Tuesday night at the Special Events Center in Fresno.

The Eagles, ranked No. 3 in the latest NAIA National Poll, fall to 20-5 on the season and to 11-2 in conference play. The Sunbirds improve to 22-0 with their 62-straight victory and to 13-0 in the GSAC.

Biola really had no answer for the Fresno Pacific attack in the first set, hitting negative with six kills and seven errors in the blowout loss. However, the Eagles found a bit of their groove in the second, hanging with the Sunbirds throughout. Trailing by five at 19-14, Biola used a 5-1 run to pull within one at 20-19. However, Fresno Pacific would score five of the final six points--four on Biola errors--to take the set.

In the third, the Eagles again hung with the top-ranked Sunbirds and overcame a late 20-16 deficit with a five-point run to take a 21-20 lead. After a kill by Christine Douglas and an attack error by FPU, the Eagles found themselves in prime position with a 23-22 lead. But after a timeout, the Sunbirds tied the score on the 12th kill by Martina Gregusova and then set up match point on a Gregusova ace. KeKe Wang then ended it with a kill down the line.

Douglas led the Eagles with nine kills while Nicolette Mather added six.

Biola returns to the court on Saturday (Oct. 23), hosting The Master's College in a GSAC clash at 1:00 p.m. in Chase Gymnasium.
