Eagles Crush Hope International, 83-42

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola closed out the first half of conference play with a convincing 83-42 victory over Hope International University in a GSAC game on Tuesday night at Chase Gymnasium.

The Eagles improve to 19-1 on the season with their third-straight victory and to 9-1 in conference play. Thanks to an untimely five-point loss by Concordia at San Diego Christian, Biola moves back into a first-place tie with Concordia for first-place in the conference.

The Royals fall to 4-15 overall and to 0-10 in the GSAC.

Senior guards Marlon King and Danny Campbell each scored 17 points to pace Biola's attack while fellow senior guard Tim Island added 12 points off the bench.

The Eagles opened the game on a 14-4 run over the first seven minutes and closed out the half with a 10-0 run to go up by 20 with just over a minute left. Biola would lead 34-15 at halftime after shooting 45.5 percent in the first half while holding Hope to just 29 percent shooting.

Things went from bad to worse for the Royals in the second half as the Eagles opened the period with an 18-2 run to go up by 35 at 52-17 with 15:22 to play. Biola would lead by as many as 44 with every Eagle player recording at least seven minutes played and all but one player scoring at least one point.

Biola dominated inside, outscoring Hope 42-16 in the paint and forced 25 turnovers by the Royals. Biola had a season-best 17 steals in teh game and outrebounded Hope 41-26.

The Eagles' win was their fourth-straight over the Royals since Hope stunned the Eagles in Fullerton during the 2007-08 season. Over the course of those four games, Biola has allowed Hope to score just 151 total points, an average of fewer than 38 points per game.

Biola returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 28), opening the second round of conference play down at Point Loma Nazarene at 7:30 p.m.
