HAYWARD, Calif. --- Senior Ashley Moseley and junior Zoe Zappas each netted goals as Biola opened the 2009 campaign with a 2-2 tie with NCAA Division II Cal State East Bay in a non-conference match on Monday afternoon.

Moseley got the Eagles (0-0-1) going with an unassisted goal in the 37th minute. She stole the ball from the Pioneers' back line and fired from close range, beating the keeper and giving Biola a 1-0 lead. The Eagles would hold onto that advantage as they headed into halftime.

Biola would add another tally early in the second half as junior Zoe Zappas scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from sophomore newcomer Brittany Barr.

But as the adage goes, in soccer the 2-0 lead is the most dangerous.

Cal State East Bay answered back in a hurry, scoring its first goal just 2-1/2 minutes later as Michelle Quintero sent home the goal off a rebound to cut the lead to one.

The Pioneers were able to tie the score with just over eight minutes remaining in regulation. This time the goal came from Ariana Nobrega, who banged in a rebound to knot the game at 2-2.

The two teams headed to overtime but neither could score the golden goal and managed just four shots between the two in 20 minutes.

Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Frushon made eight saves in 110 minutes for Biola while Nina Cefalo made two.

Biola's next contest is its home opener as the Eagles host the Academy of Art on Monday, September 9, at 3:30 p.m.
