The Master's College Bounces Biola from GSAC Tourney

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- -For the third consecutive game, Biola exchanged blows with a GSAC foe but got handed their second loss in as many days as The Master's College knocked off Biola 13-7 in the third game of the GSAC tournament at Point Loma.

Biola got production from Nick Rotkowitz and Chad Pace, as the two combined to drive in five runs, but the Eagles failed to keep up with the high scoring Mustangs.

The Master's College got off to a quick start against Biola starter Calen Pennington in the first. Michael Bando led of the inning with a double followed by Pennington beaning Pete Goeman and walking Joe Zeller to load the bases.  One batter later, Eric Blackwell singled home Bando. The Mustangs got their second run off of a wild pitch that advanced the other runners to second and third. Caleb Mintz then grounded out to plate Zeller.

Biola fired back in the second as Brent Opdyke singled and Billy Vopinek drew a walk. Pace continued to swing the bat well in the GSAC tournament with a two run double., advancing to third on the throw attempting to get Vopinek at the plate. Taylor Loop delivered a sacrifice fly to tie the game at three. Vinnie Fayard singled and moved to second on a wild pitch before a Rotkowitz RBI single with two outs.

The Mustang's regained the lead in the third after Zeller singled into left field and Blackwell walked setting up Tyler Diamonds two run double.

The Eagles responded in the  top of the fourth as Fayard doubled while Chris Foreman singled. Rotkowitz came through again, this time a two run double to give the Eagles a 6-5 lead.

But that was it for Biola as Jarred Otto's three run homer in the fourth put Master's up for good. Blackwell went back-to-back  with Otto for good measure. The consecutive homers were the second time Biola has allowed back-to-back homers this year with the other instance coming in the first round of the GSAC tournament.

The Mustang's would add four more runs the rest of the game en route to preserving their hopes of a GSAC tournament alive.

TMC will await the loser of the Pt. Loma/Fresno Pacific game with the right to face the winner in the championship.

The 38 runs Biola allowed in the GSAC tournament were more than any other three game stretch this season.

The Eagles now await word on whether or not they will play in the NAIA National Tournament which begins next week at nine regional locations. The NAIA releases its tournament field late Friday.
