BOX SCORE
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- Danny Campbell, Rocky Hampton and Marlon King combined to score 61 of Biola's 68 points as the Eagles rebounded from a tough loss with a 68-62 victory over Westmont College in a GSAC game on Tuesday night.
Biola improves to 19-7 on the season and moves up into a third-place tie in the conference with Azusa Pacific at 10-6 in GSAC play. The Warriors drop to 14-11 overall and to 8-8 in the GSAC.
The Eagles' trio had an outstanding night overall with Campbell leading the way with a game-high 23 points, connecting on four three-pointers and adding seven points from the free throw line. Hampton did the work in the low-post for the Eagles, scoring 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting and adding 10 rebounds. Rounding out the big scorers was King, who scored 18 points--one off his season-high--and also had six assists.
Biola got off to a huge start in the game and never looked back, breaking a 6-6 tie with a 15-0 run over a six minute span. The run gave the Eagles a 21-6 lead with 10:26 to go in the first half. The Warriors narrowed the lead to nine near the end of the half and headed to the locker room down 10 at 32-22.
Things got a little tight in the second half as Westmont opened by scoring seven-straight points capped by a three-pointer by Tyler Dutton. But Biola responded with a seven-point run capped by a Campbell three-pointer to make it 39-29 with 15:32 to go. The rest of the half mimicked the first five minutes as the Warriors would pull close before the Eagles would respond.
The big turning point of the game came with 7:15 remaining in the contest as Westmont's Evan Haines was whistled for a foul, then received a technical foul right after. Biola was given four free throws--three of which were made--and the ball. After the freebies, Hampton hit a putback to cap off what ended up being a five-point possession which stretched the lead from six to 11 at 54-43.
Westmont still trailed 56-46 with 5:45 left, but slowly chipped away. Dan Rasp pulled the Warriors within four at 58-54 with a three-point play at the 2:40 mark. After a missed three-pointer by King, Westmont had a chance to draw even closer. However, Blake Bender missed the front end of a one-and-one and Hampton hit a pair of free throws on the other end on the next possession to stretch the lead back to 60-54. Biola hit the majority of their free throws down the stretch to offset a pair of three-pointers by the Warriors to win the game.
Biola hit an impressive 50 percent in the game (25-for-50), hitting exactly half of its shots in each half. The Eagles held Westmont to 38.5 percent shooting in the first half and to 42 percent (25-for-59) overall.
Rasp led the Warriors with 15 points, with Andrew Schmalbach adding 11 points thanks to three three-pointers.
